Planning and organizing a foreign study/work visit
Internship finding services and strategies
The ZfL has a number of partner schools for which you can apply for through us. Advice and support around internships abroad is also offered by the University of Münster´s Career Service. And last but not least, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) also offers extensive information brochures on the subject of "internships abroad":
Country-specific information
Before considering a country for your internship, you might want to find out a little more about its culture and circumstances. The Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offer a good overview:

Country information from the DAAD [de]Financing
There are many ways to secure financing for a study visit or internship abroad. Ve sure to apply for funding early. The Career Service provides extensive information on this and can also advise you:
- Financing internships: overview [de]
- PROMOS grants for internships outside Europe [de]
- Erasmus + grant for internships in other European countries
The DAAD also offers funding opportunities (funding only once during career; we are happy to sign your form)
There is special support for students with disabilities and students with children:
Foreign BAföG: All BAföG recipients are entitled to foreign BAföG for study-related internships abroad. Even those who do not receive domestic BAföG, but whose creditable income is not too far from the relevant limits, are recommended to submit an application, since the cost of living abroad always includes a foreign surcharge and thus a higher calculation takes place.
Practical information
As you plan a visit abroad, you will need practical information about accommodation, language courses, insurance etc. For assistance with organising your stay abroad and help with other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
- You can find information on timing, looking for an apartment and academic achievements here: Practical information

Sharing and reflecting on international experiences
Have you recently completed an internship at a foreign school or other educational organisation (youth centre, kindergarten etc.)? We would love to receive your feedback! Please stop by the ZfL or send us an email!
We are always happy to put future interns in contact with previous interns, so that they have the opportunity to report and reflect about their stays abroad.
In addition, the Career Service's internship blog “Hinterm Horizont” ("behind the horizon") offers the opportunity to find out about the experiences of predecessors or to report about your own stay abroad: Live from the internship abroad: Behind the horizon [de]
